Rhoda Patterson Obituary

Homemaker and Restaurant Manager, On August 27, 2018. Mrs. Patterson was a homemaker when her children were young. Later she became a well loved restaurant manager and chief recipe holder of famous seafood dishes. A life long resident of Glen Burnie, MD, she spent the final years of her retirement in Easton, MD. Rhoda Jane Patterson, a proud mother of 4 children and 6 grand children and 2 great grand children. She was born in 1927 and raised in the Baltimore area, she was the daughter of the late Margaret Edna (Peggy) Braun (nee Payne), and Walter Braun. She was the very proud mother of Carol Lynn Cook (nee Patterson), Margaret Jane Covey (nee Patterson) and husband Timothy Franklin Covey as well as David Alan Patterson. She loved her grandchildren unconditionally including in order of of birth, Leah Vanhoose (neeCook) and husband Jason Vanhoose, Gwendolyn Persina (nee Cook) and husband Stefan Persina, Krystal Covey, Alicia Patterson and Timothy Patterson. It broke her heart that she was pre-deceased by her son William L. Patterson, Jr. and grandson Derek Franklin Covey. She adored her great grandson twins including Drew and Ryan Vanhoose. She also enjoyed a loving relationship with her only brother, William E. Braun, although he lived on the west coast since the 1950s. Her early life included residences in Linthicum and Baltimore City. She was a graduate of Western High School. Jane married the love of her life, William Lynn Patterson, Sr. and enjoyed that life until his untimely death at the age of 46 from cancer. They worked hard together to build a family that included residences in Ferndale and on Wilson Blvd in Glen Burnie, MD. They loved entertaining family and friends including the Collison family nearby. Later on, she also maintained a residence on Colonial Knoll in Glen Burnie until her 80s. After selling her town home, she enjoyed living in a senior apartment at Parkview in Easton, MD and made fast friends at the weekly Bingo Game Night. During her working years, Jane enjoyed being a "Kelly Girl", an executive secretary and a restaurant manager for Tidewater Seafood in Glen Burnie, MD. At this store, she enjoyed the love of all her teen workers who respected her work ethic and would do anything to support her sales. At this time, she perfected her recipes for shrimp salad with Old Bay, finely grated creamy cole slaw, potato salad, fillet of haddock and steamed crabs. Fans came from far and wide for her steamed crabs. Jane enjoyed music, dancing and had many fun experiences traveling with friends to various music venues. She also enjoyed driving nice cars, her proudest purchase was a sky blue Lincoln Continental. Travel was an area of interest as she enjoyed trips to Hawaii, a Norwegian cruise to the Caribbean and yearly trips to Ocean City, MD to ride her favorite train up the boardwalk. David, I was just told of your mother's passing. Please accept my deepest condolences to you and to the rest of your family as you grieve this loss. Your mother lived her life the way she wanted to live it. Her obituary is proof of that. She had many loving people in her life. Not just her family members, but those relationships with people she knew outside of her family is a testament of how she was loved by so many others. Most of us don't have the opportunity to spend enough time with our parents until they are taken from us. The pain of her loss will always be with you but, as I've been told, time is the great healer. As the years pass, this pain will be replaced with wonderful memories of her love. Love you, David.

To the best mom ever. Wendy and I were going to bring my cat Heidi to see you. After all you were the one who taught her how to rollover. She will rollover to make me laugh if she senses I'm sad. She learned to stand up on her back paws and lay sprawled out on her back. She was the one who got into bed with me and patted me when you left the physical into your spiritual being. I hope you were proud of your memorial. David worked very hard down to the last detail. You were admired and respected by all those who knew you. I love my mommy and always will.

"JANE" was an exceptional woman and friend to all of us at Park View. We enjoyed her company at bingo, and the many dinners and functions we had. She will be missed, but stay in our hearts.
