On February 28, 2025 Richard "Dick" Foard Price passed away. Dick was a man of immense character kind, giving, and ever helpful to those around him. His dedication to his community, his family, and his work left an indelible mark that will be felt for generations to come.
Born on July 14,1930, to the late Beulah Haile Price and T. Howard Price, and stepmother Evelyn Haile Price. Dick had a remarkable journey that began with his education at Mercersburg Academy, PA, where he attended from 1948-1949, graduating in May 1949. His early life was marked by a trip to Europe in 1950, where he spent three months, a journey that broadened his horizons. A proud member of 4H, Dick earned the prestigious 4H award in Baltimore County, an achievement that was followed by a $650 prize money from the sale of a steer, which helped fund his early endeavors.
In June 1951, Dick began farming alongside his brother, George. This partnership flourished, and in September 1953, He built a milking parlor, bought a herd of 35 Holsteins, and renovated the family farm at 2515 Stockton Rd, bringing water and electricity to the property.
A dedicated public servant, Dick held numerous leadership roles throughout his life. From 1957-1979, he served as a director for the Maryland Cooperative Milk Producers, and he was vice chairman of the Baltimore County Forestry Board from 1958-1962. His work with agricultural organizations was extensive, including serving on the Baltimore County Agricultural Stabilization Committee from 1954-1981, and being appointed to the State Agricultural Stabilization Committee from 1960-1965, where he served as vice chair.
Dick was deeply involved in the Southern States Cooperative, where he served on the local board from 1954-1967 and was elected to the Board of Directors in Richmond, VA in 1967. He served on the board for 36 years, including as Chairman from 1986-1989. His contributions to the agricultural community were further recognized when he was elected to the Co-Bank Board of Directors, Denver, CO, from 1993-2004.
His commitment to his community and his leadership extended to the Timonium Optimist Club, where he was a charter member from 1957, serving as President from 1958-1959 and Lt. Gov from 1961-1962. His work with Optimist International as Vice President from 1971-1972 and his appointment to the Optimist Hall of Fame in 2016 were a testament to his lifelong dedication to serving others.
A passionate advocate for agricultural education, Dick worked tirelessly to improve the future of farming in Maryland. He played a pivotal role in creating the Maryland Agriculture Education Foundation in 1989 and served as its President from 1990-1991. His leadership also led to the creation of the Family Forest Award and his efforts to increase agricultural education in Baltimore County were recognized in 1987 when he testified on the importance of such initiatives.
Dick also served as President of the Baltimore County Farm Bureau from 1969-1970, was a member of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center Advisory Board and Board of Directors, and was a key figure in the Maryland Agricultural Resource Council starting in 2010. His leadership and vision touched all aspects of Maryland agriculture.
In recognition of his exceptional service, Dick was awarded the Maryland Farm Bureau Distinguished Service Award in 2015, and his tireless work was acknowledged with the Outstanding Business Award for Baltimore County in 1990.
Dick is the beloved husband of B.J. " Mickey" Price and the late Maxine Burke Price; devoted father of Valerie Price Davis and father in law of Greg Davis and Jocelyn Price McCausland; stepfather of Robert Marsh, Richard Marsh, and Daniel Marsh; cherished grandfather of Albert Ross Zimmerman McCausland II, Sarah McCausland Bertrand and her husband Mike Bertrand, Aileen Patterson McCausland and Alexander Patterson, Clay Nelson Davis and his wife Jessica Davis and the late Deric Foard Davis; great grandfather of Iyla Olivia Davis, Gillian Patterson and Norah Bertrand; dear brother of Marilyn Willis, Rosemary Hundal, Sandra Willis and the late T. Howard Price, Jr., Robert Price, George Price, Ruth Ann Yates,; lifelong friend of the late Milt Barrett. Dick is also survived by many loving family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc., on Wednesday March 5th & Thursday March 6, 2025, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 9:30am to 10 am in Clynmalira United Methodist Church, 2920 Stockton Road, Phoenix, Maryland 21131, with Funeral services beginning at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at the adjoining Church Cemetery.
