Rita Shanty

1922 - 2021

Rita Shanty, of Stewartstown, Pennsylvania, was born in Baltimore Maryland on August 21, 1922 to Anthony Andrews and Rose (Salerno) Andrews. Shortly after her 99th birthday, on August 29th, she peacefully entered into the glorious kingdom of our Lord. Rita was the loving spouse of the late Dr. Frank Shanty and mother to; Dr. Frank G. Shanty (Melanie), Kathleen Amrein (Jerry), Mark Shanty (Liza), Dr. Richard Shanty (Joyce), and Timothy Shanty (Cheryl). She was a kind and nurturing mother and grandmother to 16 grandchildren; Christina, Jason, Melissa, Joshua, Donna, Kimberly, Michelle, Nicholas, Christopher, Krista, Matthew, Jonathan, Hunter, Logan, Lisa and Heather; and 15 adored great grandchildren. She devoted her life to the care of her family. She lived with her daughter and son-in-law for many years after the passing of her beloved husband. With her daughter working in healthcare, and the beginning of the Covid pandemic, her caretaker Annie Frey with her husband John, offered their home to Rita to reduce chances of contracting the virus. Along with her two other devoted caretakers, Paula Wineholt and Dina Bull, Rita spent her last 18 months of life receiving the utmost loving care, for which the family will be eternally grateful. Due to the escalating number of Covid cases, a private memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2021, with entombment at Bel Air Memorial Gardens.
