Robin Caples Obituary

Robin "Rob" Caples passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 13, 2025, after a long battle with cancer.

He is survived by his three sons and their families: Scott, Ridge and Samantha of Atlanta; Tim (Jill), Mac and Elie of Richmond; and Jeff (Christina), Andrew and Catherine of Baltimore, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews in nine states across the country. Rob was preceded in death by his mother, Beth McLean Caples, and his loving wife of 59 years, Susan Warfield Caples.

Rob was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and then earned his bachelor's degree from The Johns Hopkins University where he was a standout track athlete and member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

Following college, Rob spent two years in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany before returning to Baltimore to start a long career with Exxon that included one year in Washington, DC with Plans for Progress, a joint government-industry program that promoted EEO. His career took him and his family around the country, and after raising their three sons in Baltimore, Texas, New Jersey, and Connecticut, Rob and his wife retired to Williamsburg, Virginia in 1994.

Rob was an avid golfer and gardener and was very active in the golf program at Two Rivers Country Club in Williamsburg. He also kept close ties with Johns Hopkins through alumni fundraising and philanthropy and volunteered his time to many causes including the Wilton Family YMCA and the Leopold Schepp Foundation. Rob enjoyed traveling and golfing with friends and family trips to the Outer Banks. But, perhaps most of all, he loved following all his grandchildren's activities, interests, and sporting events, watching or attending countless games or contests wherever they were.

The Caples family would like to sincerely thank our parents' many dear friends and neighbors for their support and compassion over the years. Mom and Dad were blessed to have such a special network of friends. We would also like to thank the nurses and caregivers with Heartland Hospice and Reflection of Christ for their wonderful care and kindness these last few months. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.NelsenWilliamsburg.com.

Rob, we shared a journey which neither chose, you with Susan and me with Frank. Those of us in the lunch bunch relied on you for courage, strength, and humor. And now we can know your long journey is over and you and Sue are together again. God bless you!
