Roger Fink

1950 - 2023

Roger Lee Fink, of Richmond VA, passed away on January 12, 2023 at the age of 72.

Roger was born in Baltimore, MD on January 20, 1950, and grew up on his family's farm in Glenelg, MD. He received his bachelor's degree from Frostburg State University, where he was Class Valedictorian, and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Baltimore School of Law. He dedicated his career to public service, starting in the Maryland state government, then moving to local government, where he spent two decades representing Charles County in Southern Maryland as the County Attorney. Recognized over the years for his expertise in local government law, land use and zoning, he was an annual speaker at the Maryland Association of Counties' annual conference in Ocean City Maryland, and also served on the Board of Trustees for the Local Government Insurance Trust (LGIT).

A talented and accomplished musician, Roger played many instruments, but was an especially gifted flautist. He toured the U.S. and Europe over his lifetime, accompanying a variety of musical groups. His last performance, a duet with his daughter, Cezanne, in whom he instilled his passion for music, was over the holidays last year in Chicago, IL.

A devoted husband and father, Roger treasured a woven Mayan hammock that he and his late wife, Austine, brought back as a souvenir from their honeymoon in the Yucatan. As an avid reader, one of Roger's favorite ways to spend an afternoon was in that hammock with a good book and a glass of Spanish red wine.

Cezanne remembers that, before any special events, instead of wishing her luck, her father would say that he was "sending positive energy" her way, which became one of his favorite phrases.

Survivors include Roger's daughter, Austine Cezanne Fink, of Chicago, IL, his brother, Carl Fink, and sister-in-law, Carol Fink, of Tampa FL, and his partner, Dia Taylor, of Richmond VA. Roger was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Austine Rae Fink, and his parents, Shirley Crist Fink Meighan and Fredrick H. Fink.

Roger will be missed by all who knew his kind heart and creative spirit.
