Sr. Miller Obituary

Sr. Officer Zachary "Zack" R. Miller, age 67, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on February 28, 2024, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the cherished son of the late Dorsey and Frances (Robinson) Miller, and loving husband to the late Margaret Pfarr-Miller.

Zack was a proud graduate of Bel Air High School, where he laid the foundation for his remarkable life of service and dedication. His unwavering commitment was exemplified by his 43 years of service with the Bel Air Police Department. Rising through the ranks, Zack served as the Training Coordinator, the Range Master of all firearms, and Quartermaster, leaving an indelible mark on the department and the community he served.

Beyond his distinguished career in law enforcement, Zack was a pillar of his community, embodying the values of fraternity and service. He was an active member of the local Moose and Elks Lodges, a dedicated Boumi Shriner, and a respected member of the Masons Lodge Mt. Ararat #44 in Bel Air. His involvement extended to organizations such as the American Legion, Izaak Walton League, and the Delta Peach Bottom Fish and Game Association, where he forged lifelong friendships and made lasting contributions.

Zack's passions were as diverse as they were deep-rooted. An esteemed authority on German WWII history, he found joy in collecting memorabilia from that era, enriching his knowledge, and sharing his passion with others. In his leisure, he indulged in collecting coins, autographs, and movie/TV memorabilia, finding solace and fulfillment in the stories they told. A connoisseur of Luger firearms, Zack reveled in his expertise and shared his insights generously. His afternoons were often spent on the golf course, enjoying the camaraderie of close friends and the serenity of the sport he loved.

Zachary is survived by his devoted sister, Mary (Robert) Bradley, his beloved niece, Jeanne (Garret) Marks, and great-nephews, Ryan Marks and Erik Marks. He is also survived by his cherished significant other, Joan Peplinski, her son Jason (Emily) Ray, and grandchildren Jackson & Ellie, along with Joan's sisters, Sherry (Danny) Ledman and Patty (Roy) Hayhurst and their son Josh (Esha) Hayhurst. Additionally, he is survived by his late wife Margaret's children, son Matt (Kendra) Pfarr, and daughter Jennifer Pfarr, Matt's children, Alivia and Alexandra, and Jennifer's children, Gabriel Blythe, Trevor Blythe, Adam Blythe, and Isaiah Blythe. Certainly not least, Zack leaves behind his fur babies Alice, Nova, Jaeger, Jackson and Shaggy.

A visitation will be held under the compassionate guidance of the McComas Family Funeral Home at Oak Grove Baptist Church, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, and Thursday, March 7, 2024, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Services will be conducted on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Oak Grove Baptist Church at 12:00 pm, followed by interment in Highview Memorial Gardens.

Zack's legacy of service, friendship, and passion will forever resonate within the Bel Air Police Department and the law enforcement community.
