Stanley "Jerry" Waite

1939 - 2018

Stanley Gerald Waite – known as "Jerry" to his friends and family - passed on April 7, 2018 at the age of 78 at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada, after a brief illness. Born on October 24, 1939 in Baltimore, Maryland, Jerry will be missed by his children, David, Laura, and Kristen, his sister, Sondra, and his former wife, Lindsay. He also will be missed by stepdaughter Jennifer, granddaughters Kate and Kerri, and many other friends and family. He was the son of Martha and Garland Waite and brother to Garland, who has also passed. Jerry served in the Marine Corps from '58 to '62, receiving the Good Conduct Medal. He had a variety of careers - as a lineman for C&P Phone Company, then as a welder and heavy equipment operator (OEBF Local 37) on the construction of the Baltimore and DC subway systems and Bethlehem Steel, and even a stint as a cook at John Stevens (Fells Point) - before returning to college at Towson State where he received his teaching certification. He went on to become a favorite teacher at Chinquapin Middle (Baltimore City) and Pine Grove Middle (Baltimore County) where he was able to share his passion for history, geography, and social studies with the students. He loved his family, enjoyed the outdoors and road trips, and was an avid history buff and talented storyteller. Memorial donations can be made to The Carter Center (www.cartercenter.org).
