To Steve´s family - We are so very saddened to learn of Steve's passing. We met in (probably) 1978 when we (me and Kathy, my then girlfriend-now-wife-many-years) moved into a house on Merville Avenue in Baltimore, not-far-enough from Pimlico Racetrack. We were both graduate students at the Hopkins Medical School. Steve crossed the street on the day we were moving in with a quart of (pretty cheap) beer and we were instantly friends. We saw a lot of him in the two years we lived there, and then some more when we moved on to a farm out in Reisterstown. He was always a kind, thoughtful, upbeat person who we both liked immensely. We lost track of him when we moved to San Francisco in the 82 - 83 years (the dates are vague because it was chaotic) and only heard that he was working in the airlines. The pictures are of him at my (Dan's) graduation party from Hopkins (yes, we all smoked in those days) and of him holding his breath (!) out on the farm in Reisterstown. Probably more than anything else, we are both deeply gladdened that he found a partner in you, James, someone to share his life with. In those days, he was, more or less, a loner, with a big capacious heart that he wanted to give. That he found you to give it to pleases us immensely. We hope he continued to draw and create art. It was something at which he was so casually gifted, and we still have one of his knocked-off-on-the-moment oils that we treasure. He made everyone he met a bit happier just by being who he was. That is a legacy to which we should all aspire.
