Virginia Invernizzi Obituary

Virginia Budd Taylor Invernizzi died peacefully at her home at The Colonnades, in Charlottesville, Virginia, on January 16th.

Born in 1914, she was the youngest daughter of Mary Elizabeth and William Henry Taylor of Brunswick County, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Frederick Invernizzi, and seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Ellen Andersen and Marcia Invernizzi, both of Charlottesville, and four grandchildren: Benjamin Andersen, Virginia Andersen, Collin Gallahue, and Lee Taylor Gallahue.

Virginia grew up on a farm near Rawlings, Virginia, where she was a member of the Concord Presbyterian Church. She graduated from McKinney High School in 1932 and then attended the Pan-American Business College in Richmond, Virginia. She moved to Baltimore to work at the Federal Land Bank in 1934. There, she met Fred who was attending the University of Maryland Law School. They married in 1938 and after War World II lived in the Old Northwood area of Baltimore until moving to The Colonnades Retirement Community in 1995.

Virginia enjoyed taking courses at Baltimore and Towson Universities, singing light opera, playing the piano, flower arranging, gardening, and teaching Sunday school. She worked as a teacher at The Ridge School of Special Education and in the Goucher College admissions office. She also volunteered her time as President of the Parent Teacher's Associations of several public schools in Baltimore, the Northwood Garden Club, and the Women's Association of the Roland Park Presbyterian Church. In addition, she volunteered as an American Field Service host mother, a Girl Scout Leader, and in Charlottesville as a chaperone for the Westminster Presbyterian Church Children's Choir.

Virginia was proud of her genealogy and was a member of the The Society of Virginia Women of Maryland and the Albemarle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Virginia loved children and had a keen sense of humor. She will be remembered for her teasing banter. A celebration of her life will take place in The Colonnades Bistro at 3 pm on January 20th in Charlottesville. Instead of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospice of Piedmont and/or Westminster Church, 400 Rugby Rd, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
