Wendy Smith Obituary

Wendy Allison (nee Reiner) Smith passed away at Gilchrist Center Baltimore on May 24, 2025 just a few days before her 69th birthday. Ms. Smith was born June 2, 1956 in Cranford, N.J. but spent virtually all of her life in the Baltimore area, graduating from Milford Mill High School (now Academy), the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and the University of Maryland School of Social Work. Ms. Smith spent the first part of her career in catering sales at such venues as the city's famed Belvedere Hotel. Briefly she worked as a private chef, an extension of her lifelong love of cooking and fine dining. Practicing as a therapist, however, was her calling and passion, and she was beloved by patients for her incisive diagnostic skills, compassion and commitment. She is survived by her mother Barbara, three brothers and their wives (Andrew and Elizabeth, Robert and Melissa and Bruce and Linda), adored nieces and nephew (Casey, Haylea, Aliya, Ellie and Macallah). The family is planning a private memorial service.

So sad to learn of Wendy´s passing. We were friends on social media for several years, and I loved our conversations. Her curiosity, her style, her compassion always shone through-especially in the hardest moments. That rare blend of wisdom and elegance makes her truly unforgettable. May her memory bring comfort and joy to all who loved her.

Dearest Reiner Family,

I am truly heartbroken at the loss of your beloved Wendy (Stell). Simply put, she was a beautiful human being. Her soul was deep and compassionate.

We became fast friends after I met her through Robert (Bear). I couldn't have asked for a better cheerleader in life. And though I moved from Maryland many years ago, she would call on occasion to see how I was doing and would always call for my birthday with the most special wishes.

As we approach her birthday tomorrow, June 2nd, I want to honor her and remember her for her love and friendship. I know one day we will meet again in Paradise, free of pain and sadness, and dance and laugh in splendor as we once did.

With love and rememberance,
Roberta (Bert)
