William Case Obituary

Dr. William R. "Bill" Case, Jr., 86, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at Bridginglife's Dove House on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. He was predeceased by his wife Doris E. Case (nee Mason) and son Michael Joseph Case. Bill is survived by daughters and son-in-law: Laura Case and Tracey and Michael McNamara; grandchildren: Tim Cullison (Gina), Jon Cullison (Kate), Caitlin Pellant (Nick), Patrick McNamara (fiance Becky), Kevin McNamara, Erin Case, Amy Cullison, Sara Case and Will Case; seven great-grandchildren; and siblings: Charles "Chick" Case (Beverly), Barbara Frediani (Bud), Cathy Hinkson (Bill) and Elizabeth "Betsy" Madero. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late William R. Case, Sr. and Mary Alice Lanman Case.

Bill was a retired mechanical and aerospace engineer from NASA, where he was honored with many achievement awards. He was most proud of his work on the structural analysis of the Saturn rocket as part of the Apollo program. He loved working with and mentoring new engineers at NASA, many of whom continue to work there. He earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering and taught structural analysis courses at the University of Maryland for 15 years.

Bill was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church. He served on the board of trustees, as an usher and was involved in Bible Study and Computer Club. He was also a faithful volunteer with Neighbor Ride for many years. Bill had a passion for travel, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed years of RVing and spending extended time at his condo in Ocean City which he generously shared with family. His love of travel took him around the world, most recently to Ireland and Scotland with his daughters and family. Bill's hobbies included computing, woodworking, astronomy, photography, and genealogy. Above all else, he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was known to travel near and far to be with them.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 20th. Please visit www.haightfuneralhome.com for more information. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be offered to the hospice of one's choice.
