Dorcas E. (Beckett) "Pinky" Harris, 90, a lifelong Battle Creek resident, died at The Legacy at The Oaks at NorthPointe Woods on Sunday, July 19, 2015.

Dorcas was born June 27, 1925 in Battle Creek the daughter of Clyde E. and Ruth E. Dorcas was united in marriage to John H. "Jack" Harris, Jr. on March 15, 1952.  Dorcas was preceded in death by her husband, Jack on May 22, 1983.  Surviving are two sons, John H. (Diane) Harris, III of Toledo, Ohio, Thomas L. (Tammi) Harris of Battle Creek; two grandchildren, John H. Harris IV and Meredith E. Harris; two nieces and several nephews.

Dorcas' parents were founding members of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed and attended all of her life.  She was a care giver to many of the elderly at the church.  She was a member of the Dorcas church circle and a local sorority.  Dorcas was a great wife, mother and grandmother.  She was a PTA member, a Cub Scout Den mother; and the ham sandwich lady to the sports teams on which her sons competed and to M.S.U. tailgaters.  She was a Hidden Bearcat, an award given to Battle Creek Central wrestling supporters.  Dorcas was a high school and college wrestling supporter, surrogate parent to teammates and friends of her sons; and an avid Detroit Tigers fan.

Aunt Pinkie and Uncle Jack were my God parents. She gave me my first teddy bear. Although a bit worse for wear, he still sits on my pillow on my bed to this day. He will be 68 at Christmas. She and my mother made a couple of trips to Kalkaska to spend time with us when we were serving the Kalkaska UMC, and to see the sights - she was a delight to be with - so pleasant and sweet, and a woman of great faith. Before one of those Kalkaska trips, Aunt Pinkie had spent considerable time helping to care for a mutual friend, Margaret (Cluckey) Jordan. She would slip up and call my mother Margaret instead of Marilyn. So we dubbed her Pinkie Dink. From then on, that is how I addressed her cards and notes, and how she signed the things she sent to me. And even though I was only 4 at the time, I have vivid memories of their wedding reception at the Hart Hotel - my mother was a bridesmaid. And I loved going to Greensmith's as a teen-ager to see her working. Uncle Jack called me his "Stick in the Mud," but somehow, I always knew that if something happened to my parents, Aunt Pinkie would always take care of me.

My prayers go out to John and Tom and families at this time. Cherish your memories. I will miss her and all the memories made over the years with her and your family. With love, Sue (Susie Taylor) Wolfe
