Fred Addison Obituary

Fred Addison

Battle Creek

Fred Addison, 88, of Battle Creek, passed away May 8, 2014 at home.

He was born February 13, 1926, the son of Fred and Lillian (Herron) Addison in Battle Creek.  Fred graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and served in the Army Reserves from 1949 until 1953.  He worked at Kellogg's from 1946 until retiring in 1988.

Fred is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy "Dottie" (Hudson) Addison; daughter, Janet L. (David) Godard of Hamilton, Ontario; grandchildren, Allison (Jeb Assaf) Godard of Toronto, Lindsay (Anthony James) Godard of Hamilton, Ontario; brother, John (Jack) and Rebecca Addison of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Margaret Swank, Jean Temple and Helen Larsen.

He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, the Battle Creek Historical Society, Kellogg 25-Year Club and Kellogg Retiree's Association.  Fred had a natural curiosity and genuine interest in life - people, places, nature and history.  He traveled extensively, both with the Kellogg Company and personal trips, visiting five continents and about 40 countries besides all the states in the United States.  He was very interested in local foods, drink, clothing, customs and tried to visit local markets, sampling each of the exotic fruits and unusual foods at local restaurants.  Fred made a point of visiting local museums even in the small rural villages of Central and South America.

Each year Fred tried to attend his USMC battalion reunions since they began in 1977. His overseas and battlefield buddies were very special to his memories.

The family will receive friends from 11 - 12:00 Noon, a funeral service will take place at 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with Father Brian Coleman officiating.  Interment will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may go to St. Thomas Episcopal Church or a charity of one's choice.

The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home.

I have many memories of the Addison family. We were neighbors for many years. For a short time we were the only ones in the neighborhood.
Deb and Jan went back and forth to each others home.
Fred and I worked at Kellogg's and saw each other almost every day.
He will be missed and my prayers are with Dorothy and Janet.
