Heather Krueger Moana

El Cajon, CA

Heather Krueger Moana, age 42, passed away peacefully in her El Cajon, CA home on June 3rd, after a 3½ year battle with cancer.

She was born on February 14th, 1973 and lived in Frankenmuth before moving to Battle Creek. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1991, and was a standout art and music student, and a proud member of the Toledo, OH Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps from 1989-1994.

Among her career accomplishments were her years at the Battle Creek Enquirer, and as an Apple Genius after moving to California ten years ago. Her name "Moana" means ocean, and her love for the ocean, lakes and rivers was well known.

Since diagnosed with Stage IV cancer, she lived life to the fullest, enjoying travel and adventures in between treatments. She became known as "Super" Heather, for her courage and grace. She was a true inspiration to all who knew her, and to many who didn't but were following her journey.

She will be dearly missed by her El Cajon and Battle Creek families. Heather is survived in El Cajon by her spouse Mary Jo Moana, and children Kian and Nalani. She is survived in Battle Creek by her parents John and Jill Christ; siblings Matt Christ, Teri (Adam) Noaeill, and David (Ashley) Christ; grandparents Chris and Betty Christ; aunts/uncles Kristi Christ, Scott Christ, Ken Kish, Jackie Faerber, and Steve (Jan) Szymanski. She is survived, and loved by numerous cousins and extended family as well. She will also be missed by her special niece Annabelle, who shares her birthday.

Heather was a very giving person, and donated her body to science in hopes to save the lives of others. Her family would like to invite all who knew Heather, to join them for a Celebration of Life at the Battle Creek Country Club, on Wednesday, June 17th, 2015. Family will receive visitors from 1:00pm-3:00pm, with a Memorial Service at 3:00pm, and a social hour to follow.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a Memorial Donation in Heather's honor, to one of two organizations special to her: Sojourn Grace Collective, her church or to First Descents, who provide outdoor adventures to young adults fighting cancer. For convenience, donations to either organization may be sent c/o John & Jill Christ, 687 Timberlane Dr, Battle Creek, MI 49015.
