Lonnie Perry Obituary

Lonnie L. Perry Battle Creek Lonnie L. Perry, age 90, died Monday evening, May 31, 2010, at Battle Creek Health Systems, following a lengthy illness. Lonnie was born on October 21, 1919 in Dayton, TN and was the son of Allen and Mary (Goforth) Perry. He served his country proudly during World War II in the U.S. Army as a Tec. 5. Lonnie was deployed in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater with the 435th Field Artillery Battalion. He had been employed at IPI of Battle Creek as a foreman during the 1950's - 60's. Then, Lonnie managed area apartment complexes such as Kellogg and Springview. He was an avid story teller, spinning many a yarn for family and friends. Lonnie always enjoyed kidding family, friends and waitresses, especially when eating-out at many of the areas restaurants. His favorite pastime was listening to country music by the stars from yesteryears. On May 29, 1937, in Elkhart, IN, Lonnie was united in marriage to the former, Ruby K. Erskine, who preceded him in death on November 17, 1999. Surviving is his son, Daniel A. "Dan" (Anne) Perry of Pennfield Township, eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Janet E. McCreary on November 15, 1995; three sisters and a brother. The graveside service to celebrate Lonnie's life will be held on Friday, June 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Reese Cemetery, Springfield, MI, with the Rev. Robert G. Muirhead of Battle Creek, officiating. Military honors will be bestowed by the U.S. Army. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions in Lonnie's honor may be made to the Battle Creek Dialysis Center, 220 E. Goodale Avenue, Battle Creek, MI, 49037. The Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek, is in charge of all the arrangements.
