Mary Chantrenne Obituary
Battle Creek
Mary L. Chantrenne, 67, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Bronson Battle Creek. Mary was born on April 5, 1947, in Battle Creek, the daughter of Richard J. and Tharon (Hallock) Smith. She was a 1966 graduate of Harper Creek High School and attended Kellogg Community College. Mary married her childhood sweetheart, Oscar Chantrenne, on June 30, 1967 in Battle Creek. He survives her. She was previously employed by Orchard Park Grocery and later as a Matron at the Calhoun County Juvenile Home retiring in 2000. Mary loved her family and raising her four boys. She and her husband enjoyed traveling the world and visited 49 of the 50 states. Mary enjoyed bowling and league bowling, camping, hunting and fishing. She enjoyed feeding family friends and neighbors when they would visit. Mary was a member of Level Park Baptist Church and Southern Baptist Disaster Relief.
Surviving in addition to her husband Oscar are her sons Patrick Chantrene of Bronson, Jason (Michelle) Chantrenne of Battle Creek, Aaron Chantrenne of Battle Creek and Joshua (Amie) Chantrenne of Mesa, AZ. Mary also leaves her grandchildren Dustin, Zachary, Skyler, Oscar, Libby, Christopher, Nathan, Marah, Kylie and Ariana and great grandchildren Slater Macon, Chevelle and Lillian. She also is survived by her brothers Charlie (Holly) Smith and Robert (Sarah) Smith both of Battle Creek and Richie (Faye) Smith of Delton and his sisters Kathy (Roger) Golyar and Susie (Phil) Carnell both of Battle Creek. Mary was preceded by her sisters Amber Smith, Donna Eakins and Julia Stevens and her brother Richard J. Smith.
Visitation will be from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm Wednesday at Royal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Royal Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Level Park Baptist Church or Southern Baptist Disaster Relief.

Oscar and family, I am so sorry to hear of Mary's home going. I know she is having a pleasant conversation with Jesus. You hosted us for the Church Renewal Weekend 2 1/2 years ago. Best breakfasts and conversation ever. You were both such an inspiration to us--showing a true picture of serving our Lord.

I remember the first time I met Mary and Oscar. I was directing VBS at our church and we needed help. They both came and help lead a class. Then a few years later I joined the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief team of Michigan....but wasn`t surprised to find them both serving the Lord here too. I loved working with them both...they always made me smile at their love and devotion to each other and most of all to the Lord they served. We recently joined the church they are members of and were joyfully welcomed with love and an "I-told-ya-so" from Mary when we finally made the decision to join. And just like Mary...she was eager to find places for us to serve the Lord there too! I served in the nursery with both of them and many Sundays would listen to Mary tell stories of their children and grandchildren...while Libby played close by her grandma & grandpa. She always had a heart for the little ones...just like Jesus does. We will surely miss her! Our love and prayers to all of the Chantrenne family...you have had a great servant of the Lord in your life! Well done Mary! I will miss you my sweet sister.

Mary was a stranger to no one! She had a huge heart that was very giving and hands that was always helping those in need. She had undying love for her husband, children, grandchildren and family. I never heard Mary say a bad thing about anyone, as she always found good in everyone! Mary, you will be missed by your family and many many people from near and far. You are now at peace in God's garden. Spread your wings and fly high. R.I.P. Mary.

So sorry to hear about Mary. I still remember the first time I met her. She walked into the concession stand at Pennfield and asked if she could help - we said "yes" ! That was my first contact with a wonderful lady that would do anything for anybody! Whenever I ran into her, she was always ready to talk about her boys and grandchildren. Her love and delight for all of you was so evident. Praying that your memories of this love and God's strength will help you through these sad days. Take care.

Mary was such a sweet person. I would see her and Oscar at the mall walking and she would always stop and want to talk. She loved her children and grandchildren. She will be missed.

Mary and Julia were childhood friends of mine. I was Dawn Baker then. I remember having lots of fun and most especially when Mary and I would play Canasta and she'd always catch me cheating(on purpose)to get a reaction out of her. Sometimes she'd storm off and head for home. Hahaha! We were about 9 years old. Wonderful memories of the fun times we shared. Rest in peace, Mary and Julia.
