Harold Ray Shaver, 87

Harold Ray Shaver, 87, a resident of Flippin passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at his residence.

Harold Ray Shaver was born on January 15, 1925, at Rushville, Illinois to the late Dwight A. and Gertrude Swanson Shaver. He married Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Ashby on August 9, 1952, in Tempe, Arizona.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. Mr. Shaver was a missionary for Wycliffe Bible Translators for 37 years. He had a bachelor's degree in chemistry and was a member of the Flippin First Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gene Shaver.

He is survived by his wife, Mary E. "Betty" Shaver of the home; three sons, Timothy Shaver of Lone Rock, Arkansas; David Eugene Shaver of Oaxaca, Mexico; and Dwight A. Shaver of Bay City, Michigan; two brothers, John Shaver of McComb, Illinois and Roy Shaver of Platteville, Wisconsin; a sister, Ruth Phillips of Rushville, Illinois; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The funeral was held Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the Flippin First Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Martin officiating. Visitation was Friday, May 25, 2012, from 12 noon until 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military honors provided by the American Legion Alley-White Post 52 was in the Burnt School House Cemetery in Lone Rock (Baxter County), Arkansas under the direction of Conner-Hankins Funeral Home.
