Laura Mabel Parks

1921 - 2023

Laura Mabel Parks, age 101, of Hindsville, peacefully departed this life on Nov. 22, 2023, surrounded by the warmth of her loved ones.

Born on Dec. 10, 1921, in Mountain Home, Arkansas, to the late James and Getha Watson Parks, Mabel, as she was affectionately known, graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1939 and continued her education as an adult accumulating two years of college credits.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Monroe Parks, and her son, William Robert "Bob" Parks.

Mabel's indomitable spirit and work ethic were evident from a young age, starting her career with social services at the tender age of 17. Climbing the ranks, she eventually became the district administrator for Baxter, Marion and Searcy counties before her well-deserved retirement. A devout Christian, Mabel was a charter member of Crossroads Community Church.

Her passions extended beyond the professional realm, as Mabel was an avid lover of Jesus, animals and travel. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from conquering crossword puzzles to showcasing her culinary prowess in the kitchen. Among her many talents, she was renowned for her skill in the game of chicken foot.

Mabel is survived by her daughter-in-law, Shirley Parks; grandchildren, Sarah (Joel) Cottle, James (Silvia) Parks; and great-grandchildren, Esther, Miriam, Isaac Cottle and Sophie Parks. She also is fondly remembered by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects from 10-10:30 a.m. Nov. 27 at Nelson Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville, followed by a celebration of life at 10:30 a.m. A final farewell will take place at Buckeye Cemetery.
