Billy Johnson Obituary

Billy Gene Johnson (86) died on July 24, 2013 after a long illness. He was born December 19, 1926 in Mexia, Texas. At the end of World War II he served with the U.S. Army in Germany where he met the love of his life, Fraulein Edith Fűrst. In 1947 they were married in Dallas, but made their life-long home together in the Houston area. Bill made a career in the grocery business being in business for himself and working for various supermarket chains. Bill retired from Kroger in 1987. His fellow employees recognized him for his strong work ethic and had a long- lasting respect for his integrity. Granddad loved his family and he loved life. His family was his life. His favorite times were when his family came to visit. Bill and Edith loved being surrounded by all their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren during the holidays in their home. We will miss his smile and gentle ways, but his memory and our love for him will live on in our hearts forever. He was preceded in death by his father Albert Franklin Johnson, his mother Gladys Beene Johnson and brothers Maxwell Johnson and Charles Johnson. Bill is survived by his wife, Edith, of 66 years; 3 children Stephanie McDaniel and husband Mike, Darlene Snell and husband Warren and Stephen Johnson and wife Jullie; 7 grandchildren: Dean (Jennifer), Drew, Elliott (Sarah), Thomas (Heather), Evan (Michelle), Ethan (Elizabeth), Emily (Cody) and 6 great-grandchildren: Lilly, Honalei, Sterling, Isaiah, Caleb, Dalton, Blakely and Theodore, as well as his brother Jack and wife Marsha and brother Sammy. Bill also leaves loving memories to numerous other family members. A memorial service was be held on Tuesday, July 30th at the Crowder Funeral Home in Webster followed by burial at the Houston National Cemetery with military honors.
