Carmie Joseph Brown, 83, of Friendswood, TX died peacefully on Monday, November 7, 2016 at Autumn Grove Cottage in Manvel, TX. He was born July 6, 1933 to Floyd N. Brown, Sr. and Lettie M. Avitts Brown in Hastings, TX and moved to Friendswood in 1935.
Carmie was a graduate of the Class of '51, Friendswood High School and went on to earn his associates degree at Friends Bible College in Haviland, KS. Carmie married his childhood sweetheart and fellow FHS alum Lois Jean Glines in June, 1954. They were both active, lifelong members of the Friendswood Friends Church.
Carmie graduated cum laude from the University of Houston College of Pharmacy in May, 1963 and the following November opened the first pharmacy in Friendswood. Brown's Professional Pharmacy served the local community and quickly became renowned for its old-fashioned style soda fountain. Carmie's customers were his top priority and quite often he would open up his store in the middle of the night to fill a prescription. He truly cared about his employees and gave many a teenager their first job. After selling the pharmacy to take care of Lois Jean as she battled cancer, he went on to work for Park Place Pharmacy in Houston and the Kroger Pharmacy of Friendswood.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lois Jean Brown and son Carl Joseph Brown.
Carmie is survived by his two children: Joan Stine and husband Randy Stine, and Shelly Hahn and husband Christian Hahn; he is survived by four grandchildren: Nick Stine and wife Elizabeth, Dustin Stine, Rachel Hahn, and Elliott Hahn; and numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 11, 2016 at 9 a.m. at the Friendswood Friends Church Chapel, 502 S. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546. Following visitation, the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. with Rev. David Bridges officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Cemetery in Friendswood, Texas.
