John Allison Obituary

John Monroe Allison was born on May 16, 1964 in Lexington, Kentucky, and passed away on August 4, 2018 in Newton County, Texas in the loving company of his life-long best friend, Charles "Tex" Holt, whom he counted as a brother. John is survived by his son Jeffrey Allison of El Paso, Texas; his daughter Shelby Allison of Friendswood, Texas; his mother Susan Allison of Houston, Texas; his sister Anne Kim of League City, Texas; his nephew Stephen Kim of Tucson, Arizona; and his niece Rebecca Kim of League City, Texas. He is also survived by former wife Tammy Allison of Friendswood, the mother of his two beautiful children. He was preceded in death by his father James Lloyd Allison of Houston, Texas. John was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, including search-and-rescue duty from the base in Galveston, Texas. Each life that he saved was a treasured memory to him. The most treasured memory of all was saving the life of his best friend and fellow-serviceman Charles Holt when one of the rescue crews was nearly lost in hazardous conditions. He was counted as a hero by those who served with him. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1991, he developed a successful business in rental and commercial real estate, and gave presentations at a local real estate investors' association. John dearly loved his children Jeff and Shelby and enjoyed taking vacations with them. He took pleasure in caring for his dogs, and fishing on the Galveston Jetty. Those who knew John always remarked on his easy-going nature, friendliness, and helpfulness. A Celebration of Life was held Thursday, August 9, 2018 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598.
