Lt. Roberts Obituary

Lt. Col. Jimmy Clayton Roberts (retired) 61, of Friendswood died December 19th in a motorcycle accident.

He was born June 3, 1954 in Conway, SC to parents, Lillian Hall and Sgt. Maj. William W. Roberts (retired). He is survived by his beloved mother, Lillian Roberts of Longs, SC, and brother, William Roberts of Raleigh, NC. His dog, Romeo, held a very special place in his heart. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1976 majoring in history. He had a 33 year distinguished military career split between the Air Force and Texas Air National Guard flying OV-10, F-15, F-4, F-16 and Predator drone aircraft. He spent 2 1/2 years in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He also patrolled the skies over New York City immediately after 9/11.

During his military career, he earned many awards and commendations including: Air Force Commendation Medal; Air Force Achievement Medal; Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon; Combat Readiness Medal; Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon w/1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster; Air Force Overseas Service Long Tour Ribbon; Air Force Training Ribbon; Air Force Outstanding Unit Award; Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Unit Award; Air Force Outstanding Unit Award w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters; National Defense Medal w/2 service stars; Iraq Campaign Medal w/1 service star; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon w/5 Oak Leaf Clusters; Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/1 hourglass device; Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon w/1 service star; Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon w/Gold Border; Texas Medal of Merit; Texas Governor's Unit Citation w/3 devices; Texas Adjutant Generals Individual Award w/1 device; Texas Faithful Service Medal w/2 devices.

He loved to laugh and lived life passionately giving generously to his family and friends. His hobbies included reading, riding his Harley with the Sovereign Souls as Road Captain and spending time with his many friends.

Funeral will be at Lee Funeral Home, 11840 SC 90, Little River, SC, on Thursday, December 31, at 1 pm.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Graveside service with Air Force Honor Guard will follow at North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens in Little River, SC.

In lieu of flowers, donations and/or contributions may be made to Lone Survivor Foundation, 2636 S Loop West, Ste. 280, Houston, TX 77054.
