Milton Oakes Obituary
Milton Ray Oakes, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in Pearland, Texas on May 1, 2025, at the age of 86, after a courageous battle with Dementia and cancer. Born in Groesbeck, Texas on May 13, 1938, Milton lived a full and vibrant life and was a man of faith, compassion and a loyal friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Harland Oakes and Edi Turner. He is survived by his beloved wife, Darla Kay Oakes; his son, Tod Oakes; his daughters and sons-in-law; Kimberly and Blake Gasaway and Angie and Patrick McLaughlin; and his cherished grandchildren, Derek Oakes (34), Connor Gasaway (29), Hannah Gasaway (26), Ryan McLaughlin (20) and Sara McLaughlin (18).
Milton graduated from Pasadena High School in 1958 and pursued higher education at Texas A&M University and Sam Houston University; ultimately earning a business degree. He served his country in the Air Force Reserves from 1961 to 1967, stationed at Randolph Air Force Base. He enjoyed a successful career as a specialized chemical salesman for Rohm and Haas, retiring at the age of 70. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Milton cherished his family and friends. He particularly enjoyed traveling with his wife, Darla, on church trips. An avid golfer and a devoted Houston Astros fan, Milton embraced life with passion.
A private burial was held at Fair Oaks Cemetery in Groesbeck, Texas on May 13, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at First Baptist Church in Pasadena, Texas, details to be announced later.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Milton R. Oakes Memorial Scholarship fund, benefiting the Deer Park High School golf team.
