March 21, 1943 -
November 24, 2018
Pat Mack was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 21, 1943. She passed away Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the age of 75 years, in Houston, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her mother Loretta, father Frank, brother Frank, and his wife Linda.
Pat is survived by her children Jason, Heather (husband John), and Galen (wife Tara); 3 grandchildren Maya, Xavier, and Violet; her sister Christina (husband Art); brothers John, Tyrone, Gary (wife Sally), and Jeffrey; half-brothers James (wife Colleen) and Craig; and step-brother Jay.
Although Pat walked in many shoes throughout her life (inner-city kid from Detroit, student, wife, mother, Mary Kay consultant, drug and alcohol abuse counselor), she is most recently and best known as a Pioneer in Alzheimer's and dementia care in the Clear Lake and south Houston area since the mid 1990's. She started one of the first Alzheimer's care homes in the Clear Lake area before the term Alzheimer's could be mentioned in public. The "kid" from inner-city Detroit (as she sometimes referred to herself) built her business into 3 licensed facilities by trial and error and researching everything she could find on the disease. In the later years of business, she gave her time freely to anyone who wanted to learn about the business or just about caring for Alzheimer's/dementia residents in general.
Many won't believe this, but Pat did have hobbies and loves outside of work. In her more active years, she was an enthusiastic square dancer and loved to garden. In her later years, she would often stop to admire a particularly nice flowerbed as she walked into a store or restaurant. She was an avid reader of all things pertaining to improving mind, body, and spirit continually looking to improve and grow the person she was and to pass that knowledge on to others if they were interested. Oh, and did we mention she liked to shop...
Pat belonged to the Unity church since the early 90's and was a current member of the Unity Church of the Bay Area.
There will be a party to celebrate Pat's life after the New Year. Please visit her personal or business Facebook pages for date, time, and place (Clear Lake area) as they will be updated as information becomes available. Pat wanted to be cremated and her ashes will be scattered in the Davis Mountains of west Texas in a place special to her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association 6055 South Loop East, Houston, TX 77087; Hanger Square (square dance club) c/o Oscar Alemay, 221 Splintered Arrow Dr., La Marque, TX 77568; or Unity Bay Area Houston online or 1911 Hwy 3 South, League City, TX 77573.
Pat lives on in all our hearts.
