Virginia L. (Brown) August died peacefully in Pearland, TX on May 4, 2017 at the age of 95. Jiny was born on May 17, 1921 in Kansas City, Missouri to James and Josie Brown. After high school, she joined the war effort as a "Rosie the Riveter" at North American Aviation in North Kansas City. She graduated from Central Bible College in 1951 and moved to California where she met and married her beloved, Joseph V. August, in 1966. She was widowed in 1968. After working for the Corps of Engineers and the National Park Service, she found her calling as a purchaser in the engineering department at Food Machinery Corporation (FMC) in San Jose, CA where she worked until her retirement in 1983. After retiring, Jiny took on a second career as an ESL tutor at San Jose City College. She moved to Friendswood, TX in 2001 but proudly never gave up her love for California.
Jiny loved the Lord and devoted her life to Christ in 1942. Although she never had children of her own, she was a devoted aunt to her nieces and nephews, ensuring they learned proper manners and introducing them to the finer things in life. She loved to cook and shared her culinary skills and recipes with family and friends. She also loved to sing in the church choir, was a big Giants/Astros baseball fan, never missed watching a single Masters Golf Tournament and diligently solved jigsaw puzzles daily.
Jiny was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Christine Hartley and husband Bob; and brother in law, George Heideman.
She is survived by her sister, Claudia Heideman of Pearland, TX; nieces Zelda Keckler of Pearland, TX and Patty (George) Dillon of Friendswood, TX; nephews Peter (Pamela) Hartley of League City, TX, Paul (Stephanie) Hartley and Matthew Hartley of Rye, NH; great nieces and nephews, Shaun, Laura, Kyler, Kaver, Gwyneth, Gracynn, Regan and Chelsea.
