Edward Swain "Ton" Anderson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away August 10, 2021 surrounded by loved ones.
Born to Juliana and Hubert (Hobe) Anderson, grandson of Thora (Jensen) and Fred Swain and Larena (Doran) and Charter Anderson, Edward was born December 23, 1930 at Perry Memorial Hospital. He was educated at Ohio, IL grade and high schools, and attended St Ambrose University. Edward married his high school sweetheart, Joan Donnelly, on February 3, 1951, celebrating 70 years of marriage this past year. To this union 6 children were born: Susan Wolf of Ohio, Stephen Anderson (deceased), Sharalyn (Dave) Taylor of Princeton, Edward Anderson of Chandler, AZ, Michael (Teresa) Anderson of Princeton, and James (Karen) Anderson of Ohio. He is also survived by two sisters, Terry (Willis) Smith of Dixon, and Sue (Jim) Titlow of Kewanee.
He was preceded in death by his youngest sister, Freda Anderson.
Also left to mourn the loss of their Papa are 11 grandchildren: Sarah (Shad) Hansen, Chrissy (Matt) Boughton, Adam (Michelle) Anderson, Megan Taylor, Sheena (Greg) Bouslog, Sam (Laura) Wolf, Stephen (Jessie) Taylor, Sadie (Leona Pacheco) Wolf, Kyle (Jennifer) Anderson, David (Britne Rosalez) Anderson, and Rachel (Drew) Gustafson, and 20 great-grandchildren.
Edward was a self-employed builder and contractor for many years, followed by sales positions with Capp Homes of Minnesota and Walnut Custom Homes. His retirement employment was at Garland Funeral Home in Walnut, IL. Edward was a member of the Ohio Immaculate Conception Parish, serving for many years as a trustee and member of the St Mary Cemetery board. He also served on the Ohio Fire Dept for many years. Ed was a life-long sportsman, including league memberships in golf, bowling, pool, softball, tennis and enjoyed playing poker with friends. He and Joan also enjoyed many winter visits to Arizona and their time with son Ed and family. All who spent time in his company loved his wit, youthful spirit, and wonderful storytelling. Edward was a faithful and generous man, leading his family by example. His greatest joy was time spent with his family, a blessing the family enjoyed every Sunday morning through all the years. He was an inspiration in each of our lives, and we will remember him always with gratitude and love.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, August 16, at Immaculate Conception Church, Ohio, IL. A visitation at the church will be held one hour prior to the Mass. A private family burial at St. Mary's Cemetery will follow the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Mary's Cemetery or Ohio Union Cemetery.
