Princeton – Marjorie K Johnson, 93, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Manor Court in Princeton, IL.
Marjorie, known as Marge, was born in Joliet, IL on December 20, 1930 to the late Raymond and Clara (Moffitt) Quinlan. She was a graduate of Princeton High School, Class of 1948. She married the late John B Johnson (JB) on October 30, 1949.
She was the owner of Country Casuals, a women's clothing store in Princeton, IL. in her earlier years of work, she was a telephone operator. She was a member of the First Baptist Church as well as the Princeton Chamber of Commerce.
A few things Marge enjoyed in her 93 years on earth: flying, she took flying lessons at a time when this was considered to be a man's profession, she was quite ahead of her time, and loved seeing the beauty from above, flower gardening, having a beautiful array of color in her yard and home.
She loved working with JB remodeling buildings and businesses in the most unique fashions from Princeton to California and New Mexico. She and fellow artist and friend Dorothy Eastman would take country drives and find a spot to sit and paint and draw together. Dorothy was a great mentor and inspiration to Marge. She enjoyed going on lunch dates with her girlfriends, or on shopping trips. She was an avid Princetonian and Promoter for the town. Whatever she could do to encourage people to stop and see our little beautiful town, the betterment of Princeton was part of her life.
Marge was the mother of two daughters, Julie Johnson of Princeton, IL and Sandra Johnson of Albuquerque, NM.; granddaughter, Caitlin LaChance and one great grandchild Logan Carrillo.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, one child in infancy, Mark Allen Johnson and her mother and father-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Gateway Services or Friends of Strays.
