Morry L. Schlegel, 79, of LaMoille, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Saint Margaret's Hospital, Spring Valley.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Community United Methodist Church, LaMoille with Rev. David Jungnickel officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, LaMoille. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 p.m. at church. Lundquist-Merritt Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Morry was born February 28, 1942 in Princeton to Harry and Della (Pinter) Schlegel. He was raised on a farm in Spring Valley and farmed all his life in Spring Valley and LaMoille. He married Diane Phillips on a very cold January day, January 20, 1963.
Morry was a 1959 graduate of Hall High School. He worked for Van Orin CoOp and Becker Auction Service and was a Funks corn seed dealer for many years. He was a member of Community United Methodist Church where he served on several committees, was a youth group leader, taught Sunday school and was in the dart ball league. He belonged to Kum Double. He served on the First State Bank board and Bureau County Pork Producers. He was a Bureau County soil and water chairman and did lots of volunteering for water and soil. He also coached Pony League baseball in LaMoille.
He is survived by wife Diane of LaMoille; three daughters Beth (Karl) Schultz and Jill (Brad) Snethen both of Princeton and Amy Schlegel of Chicago; 6 grandchildren Seth, Justine, Luke and Karlie Schultz and Brady and Adrienne Snethen; sister Myrna (Charles) Teauseau of Winterhaven, Florida; brother Marlowe (Judy) Schlegel of Columbia, Missouri and sister in law Margo Phillips of LaMoille.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother in law Bill Phillips.
