THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Norma Ruth Martin, 78, formerly of Princeton, IL passed away at Memorial Herman Hospital in The Woodlands, Woodlands, Texas, on Monday, May 31, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
Norma was born in Bottineau, ND on September 20, 1942, to the late Norman Johnson and Ruth (Larshus) Peterson. She was lovingly referred to as Norski by friends and family. She was a graduate of Newburg High School, Class of 1960. She was married to Donald Martin on April 30, 2018.
She worked as a seamstress; she was quite the sewer, including making her children's clothing and doll clothing. She was an amazing bartender/waitress, where she worked for several local establishments before retirement. Her personality was perfectly fit for this as she never met a stranger, and if you ever spent any time talking to her, you would have felt as if you had known her forever. She was also a former member of the Princeton Moose Lodge.
Norma loved gardening, flowers and vegetables; she could grow almost anything. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and did it all with love, the reason everything she made was so good. She enjoyed entertaining and spending time with friends and family. She was crafty and just enjoyed life to the fullest. She moved to Texas with Don a few years ago to be closer to family. but would come back to Princeton and visit often. She loved her bling, and you would never see her out and about without her jewelry and makeup. Norma loved her pets, Ginger and Gizzie and was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. She was fun, funny, kind and loving and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Martin of The Woodlands, TX; three children, Julie Moore of Spring, TX, Margo (Bill) Hicks of Princeton, IL, Bradley (Marla) Moore of San Diego, CA; one sister Shelly (Jim) Bohl of Upham, ND; one brother, Doug (Sheila) Johnson of Burlington, ND; four grandchildren, Leslie Grotti, Eric Morris, Courtney Hicks and Alexis Moore; two great-granddaughters, Brooklyn and Ophelia; one stepdaughter, Larissa (Gregory) Kramer and their ten children; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins that all held a special place in her heart.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents, Norman Johnson and Ruth (Pete) Peterson; her husband, Laverne Manning; two brothers, Ralph Johnson and Terry Johnson; one sister, Marjo Shipp; as well as many other loved ones.
