Richard Eugene Hafley

Richard Eugene Hafley, 66, of La Salle, died on the evening of August 9, 2021 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. service in the Shields Funeral Chapel, Oglesby. Pastor Chico Perez of Abundant Life Fellowship, La Salle will officiate. Burial will be private in the Henry Cemetery.
Richard was born June 5, 1955 in Spring Valley to Raymond and Rita Mae (Cummins) Hafley. He spent his youth living in Putnam County and Tonica. In 2012, he met the love of his life, Linda Strahorn. They made a home in La Salle, where they could be close to his children and grandchildren. A jack of all trades, his great passion in life was sharing knowledge and experience with his children and grandchildren. Richard was an avid horseshoe pitcher, and loved baseball. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed fishing with his kids and grandkids. He was the president of the Spring Valley Lions Club, working on numerous projects to assist people with vision and hearing disabilities. In his youth, he was active in Scouting, reaching the rank of Eagle Scout, and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow.
Before retiring, Richard worked as a security guard for ASI of Aurora. He is survived by 2 sons, Richard J. (Kristine) Hafley of La Salle and Randy Hafley of Spring Valley; 2 daughters, Amy Renee (Joe) Buckley of Lostant and Andrea Hafley of Chicago; his beloved fiancee, Linda Strahorn of La Salle; 1 brother, Raymond Hafley of Bureau Junction; 4 sisters, Barb (Tom) Lucas of Pontiac, Ruth (Otto) Hicks of La Salle, Rita (Don) Donaldson of Spring Valley and Delores (Larry) Simpson of Manito; one sister-in-law, Kathy Hafley of Magnolia; 6 grandchildren, Madelyn and Rynn Hafley of LaSalle, Charlie Bachman, Aleksa Clinard, Alyssa and Brody Buckley, all of Lostant; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Hafley.
