Alan Popp Obituary
Alan W. Popp, 91, from Atlantic Beach, FL passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022, at McGraw Center for Caring Hospice. He was born in Chicago, IL to the late John and Marie Popp on September 11, 1931. He attended Beloit College in Beloit Wisconsin with a BA in 1953.
He was an international geologist, traveling widely throughout 79 different countries practicing mining and mineral development. Also an active Rotarian and he enjoyed playing Bridge with friends. Much of his time he devoted to his vast collections of stamps from around the world. Additionally, he vested many hours to his military library and World War period model building. He was a veteran of the Korean war serving in the Army performing topographical analysis and water safety instruction. An avid aviation fan he also was a private pilot. Always the dedicated worker supporting his family, he moved them frequently and widely throughout the US. Eventually relocating to Australia for several decades before returning to Atlantic Beach.
Alan is survived by his sons Dr. Mark (Brenda) Popp, Jeffery (Robin) Popp, daughter in law Dr. Barbra Spengeman, grandchildren, Britney (Jeremy)Barrow, Shelly, Connor, Nicole, Brent, Reed, Kyle, Grant and great-grandson Luke. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Jean R. Popp and his son Dr. James D. Popp.
