Nellie Lynch Obituary

NELLIE ADAMS LYNCH
Nellie Adams Lynch, 91, lifetime resident of Atlantic Beach, passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 9th. The daughter of W.H. and Florence Adams, she lived until the age of seven in the Atlantic Beach Hotel, the family's business. She attended Atlantic Beach Elementary and the Bartram School. After Bartram, she went to Northwestern University where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority and elected to the Mortar Board Honor Society. She earned a BS in Fine Arts at Northwestern and was also a graduate of Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School. She received her Masters in Education from Jacksonville University.
While at Northwestern, Nellie participated in Waa-Mu and Dolphin Show productions where she met her husband, Bob Lynch. They were married in December of 1951 and returned to live in Atlantic Beach in 1953.
Nellie joined Duval County Public Schools in 1963 as the art resource teacher for three of the beaches elementary schools. Later, she served as the Instructional Television art teacher and the Coordinator of Art Education before being appointed Supervisor of Art Education for DCPS. During that period, she was involved in a number of professional organizations including Florida Art Educators Association and the Cultural Council of Jacksonville. As a practicing fiber artist, she was a member of Florida Craftsman and Crown Craftsmen.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert K. Lynch, son Daniel Phillip Lynch and daughter-in-law Sandra Clark Lynch. She is survived by son John Michael (Barbara) and daughter Susan; grandchildren Ben Lynch (Dina), Kali Lynch, and Kassidy Kaye (Matthew); great-grandchildren Peyton, Caroline, and William; and her brother William H. Adams III and sister Julie Sleeper.
The family will be holding a private remembrance for her. We would like to thank Community Hospice for the kind care and loving concern they provided Nellie in her final days.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, Jacksonville Beach, FL.

Nellie was a wonderful friend and I will always have a warm place in my heart for her. I was hired by Nellie to teach art in the Jax schools. With her determination and guidance I was able to close one job door and open another in Jax and FAEA. She was a rare, wonderful peer who kept me under her wing, guiding me through FAEA.

I'll always remember our summer trips - Grandma Nellie and Grandpa Bob driving to Fort Myers to pick us up to take us back to their house. I remember her telling us stories, teaching me how to sew, and taking us to the beach, the Jacksonville Zoo, St. Augustine. Grandma Nelie was an amazing artist. I wish I inherited her skills, but I'm so glad that my niece, Peyton, did. We'll miss you, Grandma Nellie.

Even though Nellie was older than me, I remember playing with Susie in the pool. Also how artistic she was. I was always amazed at the painting in her home. She is now in heaven with her first cousins Laurie and Gerry. And her mother and dad. Nancy Adams?
