Barbara Voelbel Obituary
She was born Feb. 26, 1950, in Trenton, New Jersey, graduating in 1972 from James Madison University in Martinsville, Virginia.
Barbara was a fifth- and sixth-grade teacher at Blue Lake Elementary School in DeLand, retiring in 2010 after 30 years. She was named Teacher of the Year in 2009.
She loved gardening, going to the beach, and visiting the mountains in North Carolina.
Barbara is survived by her sister, Paula Hembree of Murphy, North Carolina; her brother, Mark and his wife, Darlene, of DeLand; nieces and nephews Theresa, Jason, Heather and Bradley; great-nieces and -nephews Ryan, Jonathan, Charlotte and Anabelle; and special friends Pam McMahan, Jeannie Bell and Tracy Whitney. She was preceded in death by her parents, Doris and Paul Voelbel, and her sister Lisa Whitcher.
