Carol Goose Obituary

NEW SMYRNA BEACH - Carol Ann Goose, 89, died Aug. 30, 2023, at the Beachside Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at River Park Terrace in New Smyrna Beach. Those wishing to attend should email her son David at [email protected].
Born in Cincinnati to Garrett Hobart and Helen Naomi Pendry Sutherland, Carol came to New Smyrna Beach in 2017 from Orange City, having lived there since 1982.
Carol spent her career as a controller and bookkeeper for several companies over her lifetime.
At a later age, she was a librarian at Stetson University in DeLand, and was affectionately known to many of the students as "Mother Goose."
Carol then followed her passion of holistic medicine and became a neuromuscular massage therapist. She always had the ability, before and after her training, to put her hands on someone and fix their pain.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and a key member of the West Volusia Historical Society, spending many hours in the preparation of their book.
Carol loved art, music and theater. In her younger days, she starred in local productions of See How They Run and Madam Butterfly, where she only spoke in the Japanese language Okinawan.
Carol was always giving of her time to help others. She volunteered for the Volusia County Sheriff's Office as a victim's advocate, helping those in some of the toughest times of their lives. In earlier days, while living in Miami, she spent her weekend evenings staffing the Suicide Hotline.
In earlier days, she took in troubled teen women to help them escape abusive conditions. Carol would give her last dollar to help someone in need.
Survivors include her son, David (his wife, Angelina) Goose; daughter Jamie Ann Fish of DeBary; two granddaughters, Lauren Goose of New Smyrna Beach and Jennifer Fish of Deltona; and grandson Ryan Fish of DeBary. Carol was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers or cards, donations are requested for the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org. Condolences may be made online at www.settlewilderfuneralhome.com. Settle-Wilder Funeral Home is in charge.

Carol was my neighbor, friend & massage therapist for many years. She was a gifted exceptional person. Borrowing a salutation from her, I say, “Catch you later” dear girl.
