Death
Albert E. "Al" Ackerman Jr., 84, Omaha, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005. He was born Oct. 4, 1920, at Burchard, the son of Albert and Anna (Johnson) Ackerman, and grew up in that area. He entered the Army on June 13, 1942, and later transferred to the Air Force, where he attained the rank of staff sergeant. He was a radio operator and gunner on B-17s and B-24s. He had been a prisoner of war until being freed in June 1945. His medals of achievement included two Bronze Stars, the Oak Leaf Cluster and POW medals. He married Audrey Packett on June 8, 1943. He was a retired millwright from Lodge 1463, and had received his 50-year pin in 1998.
Survivors: wife, Audrey; son, Barry and wife Jill of Omaha; grandchildren, Mark and Paige Ackerman, Sherry Brumfied and husband James of Omaha, Jeff Ackerman and wife Lonnie of Aurora, Colo., Dusty Ackerman and wife Debbie of Littleton, Colo.; great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Ackerman of Beatrice; sisters, Betty Buman of Pawnee City, Donna Bright of Mead, Joan Rosendahl of Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Anna (Johnson) Ackerman; children, Mike and Dennis.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28, Wherry Brothers Mortuary, 919 G St., Pawnee City. Burial: Pawnee City Cemetery. Visitation one hour prior to service. Wherry Brothers Mortuary, 919 G St., Pawnee City, in charge of arrangements.
