Albert E. Mettscher, age 92 years, of Blue Springs, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, at the Wymore Good Samaritan Center. He was born Oct. 22, 1914, on a farm near Hudson, Kan., and moved with his family to Green Forest, Ark., where he spent the majority of his childhood. He later worked on a farm near Krider, and lived for a short time in Kansas and Arkansas before moving back to Nebraska. He married Berniece Hardy on June 3, 1938, at Great Bend, Kan., and they have lived in Blue Springs since 1951. Albert worked for the State of Nebraska Highway Dept. for 26 years until his retirement in 1979. He attended the Blue Springs United Methodist Church and was a retired member of the Blue Springs Fire Dept. His hobbies included gardening, bird watching, working around his home, and spending time with his family.
Albert is survived by his wife, Berniece; by three sons, Melvin Mettscher and his wife Sharon, Brian Mettscher and his wife Rondi, all of Lincoln, and Ron Mettscher and his wife Kathy of Ogallala; by five grandchildren, Mike Mettscher and his wife Diana of Valparaiso, Krista Stevens and her husband Troy of Beatrice, Katie Mettscher and Ross Mettscher, both of Lincoln, and Matthew Mettscher and his wife Chris of Omaha; by three great-grandchildren, Logan and Riley Stevens, and Mandy Mettscher; by a sister, Leona Russell of Salina, Kan.; a brother, Virgil Mettscher of Hutchinson, Kan.; by two sisters-in-law, Mildred Colgrove of Blue Springs and Viola Herman of Panora, Iowa; and by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Emma (Dierking) Mettscher; by a brother, Elmer “Bud" Mettscher; and by five sisters, Mary, Amelia, Bertha, Elizabeth and Edna.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at the Wymore Presbyterian Church, 12th and L streets, the Rev. Richard Sykes officiating. Burial will be at the Blue Springs Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home, 505 N. Ninth St., Wymore, from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family receiving friends from 3 p.m.-4 p.m., and at the church one hour preceding the service. Memorials to the Wymore Good Samaritan Center Chapel Fund with the funeral home in charge. Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home, Wymore, is in charge of arrangements. (Paid)
