Clifton Veerhusen Obituary

Clifton C. Veerhusen, 80, of Adams, passed away Saturday night, March 8, 2014, at the South Lake Village in Lincoln. He was born on Nov. 18, 1933, on a farm east of Firth, to Clyde and Opal (Blaser) Veerhusen, and he lived in the Firth and Adams area his entire life.

Clifton attended Red Diamond country school near Adams and was a 1951 graduate of Adams High School. Clifton and Marlene Finkner were married on Jun. 3, 1953, at the Hopewell Methodist Church near Adams. Clifton had farmed for 26 years, and he was a Feed Salesman retiring in 2009. He was a member of the Adams United Methodist Church and had coached Legion baseball and softball for many years. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, flowers, and took residence part-time at the hometown cafe with fellow coffee drinking and card playing companions. Clifton especially enjoyed all sports activities and being with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene; children, Kim Veerhusen and wife Linda of Lincoln, Jeff Veerhusen and wife Denise of Phoenix, Todd Veerhusen and wife Diane of Adams, and Trudi Nolin and husband Ronn of Omaha; and seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Opal (Blaser) Veerhusen; sister-in-law Mary Lee Weber; and brother-in-law Kenneth Walker.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Adams, with Reverend Ken McQueen officiating. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery in Adams. The body will lie in state Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Adams, with the family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m., and at the church one hour preceding the service on Wednesday. A memorial has been established to the family's choice with Ken Cook in charge. A family prayer service will be held Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. at the church.
