Cornelius A. Wiedel of Hebron, departed this life on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron at the age of 94 years.
Cornelius, the son of Edward and Rose (Goepfrich) Wiedel, was born Oct. 8, 1916, on a farm, rural Hebron. Cornie was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he was a lifetime active member. He attended the Sacred Heart Catholic School, was a 4th degree charter member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a great supporter of the church choir.
Cornie loved his church, was so proud of his family, farming, loved attending sports events, entertaining, playing cards, music and never knew a stranger.
Cornelius married Wilma Hissong at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron on Oct. 5, 1938.
He is survived by two sons, Roger and wife Jackie and Lonnie and wife Chris of Hebron; two daughters, Idonna Kripal and husband John of Hebron, and Diane Baxa and husband Bob of Beatrice; one sister, Gertrude Fischbach of Kearney; grandchildren, Annette Baxa and friend Dave Holes of Fairbury, Jason Baxa and wife Laura of Coppell, Texas, Rob Baxa and wife Shoni, Alicia Buhr and husband Rob, and Anthony Baxa and wife Jaci all of Beatrice, Jeffrey Kripal and wife Julie of Sugarland, Texas, Dr. Jerry Kripal and wife Heather of Cincinnati, Ohio, Carlece Kenner and husband Pat, Kevin Wiedel, Kelli Burkey and husband Terry, Kurk Wiedel and wife Kris, Casey Wiedel and wife Stephanie, Curtis Wiedel and wife Amy, all of Hebron, Kendra Jantzen and husband Trevor of Lincoln, Craig Wiedel, Cory Wiedel and wife Jeri, all of Omaha, Matthew Wiedel and wife Carrie, and Carrie Scribner and husband Shawn both of Lincoln, Adam Wiedel of Centennial, Colo.; great-grandchildren, David Prichett and wife Amy of Durango, Colo., Rhiannon Svitak and husband Casey of Sprague, Andrea Richardson and husband Jeremy of Boise, Idaho, Rebecca Schure and husband Mike of Omaha, Caleb Kenner of Hebron, Eric Wiedel and wife Shelly of Brandon, S.D., Jessica Knobbe and husband Bryce of Bloomington, Ill., Michelle Wiedel of New York, N.Y., Joel Wiedel of Fremont, Ashley Burkey of Omaha, Braden Burkey and Stacia Burkey of Hebron, Jenna, Seth, Simon and Jasa Wiedel, all of Hebron, Jordan Ward, Luke and Brock Wiedel of Hebron, Desire, Jayden and Jagger Wiedel of Omaha, Kenna Jantzen of Lincoln, Olivia and Atlie Wiedel of Hebron, Jenna and Jessica Kripal of Sugarland, Texas, Cherie, Dylan and Alia Kripal of Cincinnati, Ohio, Cecilia Wiedel, Noah and Aunalie Scribner of Lincoln, Cortney Simonton of Aurora, Colo., Lucas Woods of Manhattan, Kan., Zach Holes of Fairbury, Codie and Carlie Baxa of Coppell, Texas, Tyler and Delaney Baxa of Beatrice, Jasey, Chesney and Josh Buhr of Beatrice, and Jaedyn and Addisyn Baxa of Beatrice, Derek Holes of North Platte, Matt Holes of Fairbury, Remy Holes and Dylan Holes of Red Wing, Minn.; great-great grandchildren, Emma Pritchett, Kenner and Patton Svitak, Rylan Richardson, Jarek Simonton, and Brylie Wiedel; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Cornie was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wilma; brothers, Bernard, Alvin, Carl, Lewis, Frank and William; great-grandson, Jordan Burkey.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hebron at 10 a.m. Officiant, Father Rudy Oborny. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hebron. Visitation held Monday at Hebron Memorial Funeral Home in Hebron with Rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Memorials in care of the family.
