Margie Johnson
May 3, 1933 - September 9, 2025
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Margie R. Johnson at age 92 at the PEO Home in Beatrice, Neb., on September 9th, 2025 with her granddaughter by her side. Margie was born in Concordia, Kan., on May 3, 1933. Margie graduated from Concordia High School in 1951 after being named Homecoming Queen and receiving many academic honors. She received her teaching certificate from Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas, in 1953. Margie taught at a rural schoolhouse near Concordia, and then an elementary school in Salina, Kan.
Margie married Robert Johnson on December 18, 1955, and moved to WaKeeney, Kan., where she continued teaching school until the birth of her son, Tracy Johnson, in 1958. The family moved to Beloit, Kan., around 1962, where they welcomed their daughter, Trudy Johnson, in 1963.
In 1964, they left for Beatrice, Neb., where she remained until her death. In Beatrice, she was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. Margie was known for her soothing alto voice and her beautiful harmonies. She was also a member of the PEO- Chapter Z. She owned and operated The Boutique Card and Candle Shoppe at Indian Creek Mall, where everyone knew her as "mom." After closing the card shop, she started a career in 1976 at Martin Luther Home/Mosaic, where she spent 35 years, holding several job titles. She retired in 2011 as a member of the human resources team.
Upon retirement, she stayed busier than most retirees. She volunteered at the Beatrice Food Pantry, was active in the Centenary United Methodist Church and maintained a robust social life with friends and family. Margie enjoyed sewing, baking and cooking, and her skills at each were revered by all who knew her. Margie was well known for her endless ability to forgive and care for and about others. She loved unconditionally, gave the best advice, and was devoted to celebrating others - birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions. She was a fighter until the end.
Survivors include her son, Tracy Johnson, and wife Carol from Eugene, Ore.; granddaughter, Deja Parde, and husband Matt of Kearney, Mo., and grandsons, Matthew, Marcus and Michael Johnson of Eugene, Ore. She has two great-grandchildren, Grayson and Madyson Parde of Kearney, Mo.; sister, Sharon Haines of Gladstone, Mo., and multiple nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, M.F. "Chick" and Minnie Johnson; husband, Robert Johnson (2004); daughter, Trudy Johnson (2013); nephew, Therik Haines (2017); brother, Gary Johnson (2025); sister, Arvis Elaine Johnson (1950), as well as her special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Dolores St. Pierre.
