Melvin H. Holsing

Melvin H. Holsing, 83 of Lincoln, died Friday afternoon April 13, 2012, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born April 22, 1928, at Beatrice. He attended Clatonia school and then farmed with his father near DeWitt. On April 16, 1952, he married Beverly Sehl at St. Paul Lutheran Church of rural DeWitt. They farmed near DeWitt until 1980 when they moved to Hallam where he owned and operated the Hallam Elevator until 1996. In 2004 their home was destroyed by the Hallam tornado and they moved to Lincoln. He was a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served as an elder, was on the church council and had been the Sunday School superintendent. He enjoyed going to the lake and fishing, the boys and girls state basketball tournaments and Husker football.

Survivors include his wife Beverly of Lincoln; two sons, Roger Holsing and wife Cindy of Pickrell and Alan Holsing and wife Sheri of DeWitt; two daughters, Ronda Lambert and husband David of Greenwood and Susan Stauffer and husband Thad of Lincoln; ten grandchildren, Matthew Lambert and wife Dana, April Lambert, Shelby Sorensen, Haley Sorensen, Kris Holsing and wife Blaire, Andrew Holsing and fiancee Alexia Wittstruck, Casey Holsing, Carrie Derickson and husband Pat, Kati Stauffer and fiancee Trevin Wurm and Sydney Stauffer; three great-grandchildren, Madison and Peyton Lambert and Elise Derickson; one brother Ervin Holsing of Beatrice; one sister Ileen Wallman and husband Alvin of Beatrice; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Sophia Spilker Holsing, sister Elda Bergmeier and an infant sister Marie Holsing.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at St. Paul (Soap Creek) Lutheran Church of rural DeWitt with Pastor Rick Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery. A family prayer service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the fellowship room of the church. A memorial has been established to the family's choice with the church elders in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home from noon Sunday until 9 p.m. Monday and then one hour preceding the service at the church on Tuesday.
