Paul Turnbull Obituary

Paul Arthur Turnbull passed away at the Platte Care Center on October 22nd, 2025. He was 96 years old.

Paul was born on June 12, 1929, to David and Helen Turnbull in Blue Springs, NE.

Paul lived and worked on the family farm in Blue Springs until they moved to Beatrice Nebraska. There he attended Beatrice High School and worked part-time at Dempsters Manufacturing, helping make 90 mm Anti-Aircraft shells used in the WWII war effort.

After High School Paul joined the Military and was a Paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division. He was stationed in Japan and assigned to patrolling the streets during the U.S. Occupation following WWII.

Once he returned stateside, his ambition was to reenlist to serve in the Korean War. But love had other intentions for him. He met and married his wife of 68 years Adela Ann Carr on June 3rd, 1950.

After leaving the Military, Paul took a full- time job working at Store Kraft Manufacturing in Beatrice where he built and assembled cabinets and other household furnishings. He loved working with wood and building things. When an opportunity came for him to go to work with the United States Post Office Department he began a new career. He became a clerk/carrier working both in the office and on the street. With the reorganization of the Post Office Department in 1971 to the United States Postal Service he made the choice to work inside the building sorting mail and doing retail functions. Approximately 20 years into his career he longed to get back outside, where he enjoyed being most, and was given an opportunity to become a Rural Mail Carrier in the Cortland, Princeton, and Hallam Nebraska Areas. This was the position he held until his retirement.

In 2000 Paul and Adela moved to Platte, South Dakota where they both spent the rest of their earthly lives.

Paul is survived by his 3 children, Paula A. Turnbull, who became his primary caretaker in 2019, of Platte, Paul S. (April) Turnbull of Platte, and Rebecca M. (Terry) Lowe of Roca, NE.

Two Grandchildren Amanda (Jeremy) Carnes Bennet, NE and Nathan (Samantha) Lowe of Lincoln, NE.

Four Great Grandchildren, Zachary Hertzler, Addison Hertzler, Asher Carnes and Lauren Carnes of Bennet, NE.

One younger sister Carolyn (Tim) Turnbull-White, Bend Oregon.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters.

A memorial service is not planned at this time. His internment will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice, Nebraska.

In lieu of flowers and cards a donation may be sent to the South Dakota Alzheimer's Association, [email protected], 5915 S. Remington Place, Suite 110.
