Stanley D. Borcher

STERLING - Stanley D. Borcher, 79, of Sterling, died Sunday night, June 2, 2024, at Goldcrest Retirement Center in Adams. He was born on August 19, 1944, in Pawnee City to Marvin and Glenda (Kalin) Borcher. Stanley graduated from Lewiston High School in 1962 and from UNL in 1966. On September 18, 1965, he married Carolyn Steiner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Burchard. Stanley was a long-time farmer and worked at National Crane from 1985 until 2003. He was a volunteer with the Sterling VFD for nearly 50 years and an EMT with the Rescue Squad from 1980 until 2017. He also operated Stan Borcher Mowing Service from 2004 until 2023. Stan was active in the Sterling United Methodist Church until it closed and then attended Hopewell United Methodist Church. He enjoyed photography, flying drones, turning wood, and collecting J I Case equipment.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Borcher of Sterling; children: Glenda (Ed) Wallpe, Carrie (Steve) Vyhlidal, Patricia (Steve) Shewmaker, Ken (Marlow) Borcher, and Dean (Ashley) Borcher; grandchildren: Kalin and Miles Wallpe, James and Michael Vyhlidal, Molly Shewmaker, and Garrett Lorenzo; siblings: Verona Neumann, Arlene (Paul) Fell, Wanda Hartman, Donna (Chuck) Burr, Esther (Richard) Halbert, Ann (Mike) Jeffrey, Sharon Borcher, and Don (Marcia) Borcher; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Gerald Hartman and Gary Neumann; sister-in-law, Arleen (Clarence) Hippen.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Sterling Community Center with Pastor Ken Tubbesing officiating. Interment will be at the Sterling Cemetery. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Friday prior to the funeral. The body will lie in state at the Zink-Fox Funeral Home on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from noon until 8:00 P.M. The family will greet relatives and friends from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home.
