Steven A. (Big Moss) Moslander, 62, of Beatrice, died in a Lincoln hospital on Friday, March 20, 2015. He was born March 28, 1952, at Beatrice, attended Pickrell Grade School and graduated from Beatrice High School in 1970. He then attended Fairbury Junior College on a basketball scholarship before transferring to the University of Nebraska, where he graduated in 1976 with a degree in elementary education and special education. He worked at BSDC as a direct care specialist and QMRP from 1976 until 1989. He married Marcia Rist in June of 1977 at St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice.
He worked at Mosaic from 1989 until 2014 as a training specialist and truly loved working with people with disabilities. He was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell, St. John Lutheran Church and Holy Cross Lutheran Church, both of Beatrice, and was currently attending the Beatrice Mennonite Church. He enjoyed his grandchildren, watching Husker and Beatrice athletics, animals, bird watching, especially pigeons and doves, and had been a foster grandparent at Tri County schools.
Survivors include his wife, Marcia of Beatrice; step-father, John Hajek of Beatrice; two daughters, Jennifer Sandersfeld and life partner Marie Migliaccio of Beatrice and Megan Moslander and boyfriend, Joseph Kudera of Omaha; two sons, Gene Sandersfeld and wife Jackie of Alliance and Rob Sandersfeld and wife Peggy of Beatrice; four grandchildren, Hannah Sandersfeld, Cameron and Courtney Knepp and Matt Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Reese, Tregan and Julie Johnson and Ross Sandersfeld; three brothers, Billy Moslander and wife Charlotte of Beatrice, Dan Moslander and wife LaVonna and Brad Moslander and wife Kris, all of Pickrell; sister-in-law, Shari Hagemeier and husband Jim of Sun Prairie, Wisc.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Moslander and Marie Lenners Moslander Hajek, grandparents Edward and Mayme Moslander and Oltman and Grace Lenners and parents-in-law, Dale and Jeanette Rist.
Inurnment of the cremains will be at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at the Pleasantview Cemetery of rural Pickrell. A memorial service will follow on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church, with Pastor David deFreese and Pastor Myron Meyer officiating. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of the church. The family requests orange and black or red and white attire for the service. A memorial has been established to the family's choice. A guestbook for signatures will be available at Fox Funeral Home from noon Tuesday until 9 p.m. Wednesday and then at the church one hour preceding the service on Thursday. The family will meet and greet relatives and friends Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
