Dr. Achyutananda Roy

1938 - 2016 Dr. Achyutananda Roy of Beaumont passed away at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston on the evening of March 7, 2016, after suffering a stroke. Born on September 25, 1938, in Khiraty, Mednipur, India, Achyutananda was the oldest son of Pramila and Khudiram Roy. From 1977 to 1994, he practiced surgery in Orange and Beaumont where he raised his family and served as an active member of the community. Dr. Roy participated in a number of local organizations including The Rotary Club and the Chinmaya Mission of Beaumont. Away from his medical profession, he was an avid gardener, traveler, photographer, swimmer, and tennis player. He is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Banalata; his sons, Amit, Samit, and Sanjit; his granddaughter, Henley; his brother, Brahmananda; his sisters, Chhabi, Nanda, Puspa, and Maya; and several other nieces, nephews, and family members. A funeral service for Dr. Roy will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont, with a committal to follow at Broussard's Crematorium.
