Bobbie Dengler Obituary

Bobbie Dengler, 83, passed away peacefully in her home in Woodville, Texas on March 2, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Most knew her as Ms. Dengler at Woodville ISD, and her family knew her as Grandma Bobbie or "Boo".

Shortly after high school, she married, had 3 children by age 22, then graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Houston where she received her bachelor's degree, and Lamar University for her master's degree. Valuing the importance of education, she became a beloved teacher and guidance counselor. In the words of her grandchildren, "Whenever I visited grandma and we went into town, we never failed to run into one of her old students who would excitedly say, 'Hi Ms. Dengler!' and give her a big hug and talk about how she changed their life.

She took great pride in taking care of her seventy-five acres of land, where you could find her driving her tractor, mowing the lawn, "bush hogging", shooting rattlesnakes, and staying on the lookout for wild boars. She was often spotted driving around town in her red truck with her beloved dog, Big Girl, smiling in the back.

She absolutely adored her book club that met at the library and spoke so highly of all the members to her friends and family.

Her favorite pastimes included solving her crossword puzzles every morning in pen for over 30 years, watching "Jeopardy!", sitting on the patio watching the deer and wildlife, reading at least two books a week, and playing piano.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Warren H. Dengler, and loyal dog Big Girl. She is survived by four children, Harlon Hendrick, Nina Steinberg, Lauren "Bit" Bumstead, and Lisa Dengler, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Bobbie did not wish for a public memorial, and her family will honor her legacy with a private service. In lieu of flowers, you can honor her memory by getting a library card from your local library. In addition, her family would love to hear stories and memories from Bobbie's friends and former students, and email to [email protected].

Surely goodness and love shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
