Hubert Henry Obituary

Hubert Henry, age 94, of Winnie, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025.

Born on March 28, 1931, in Morse, Louisiana to Nora Breaux and Antim Henry, Hubert lived a long and full life marked by faith, devotion, and love for family. He married the love of his life, Mary Lou, and together they shared 73 beautiful years of marriage. A true example of their lifelong love and partnership.

A faithful and loving husband, Hubert led by quiet example. He was honest, humble, patient, self-taught, hard-working, and sacrificial, giving his best in everything he did for his family and his farm. Everyone who knew Hubert remembers him as a man of honor and integrity, and one who expected the same from those around him. He was fixed in his convictions, at times even rigid, yet always approachable, present, and sincere. He was a strong and steady man. Respected by other men, admired for his work ethic, and deeply trusted by all who knew him.

A rice farmer for 50 years, Hubert was mentored by some of the best in the business and went on to become a mentor himself to many younger farmers who often sought his advice. In 1978, he was honored as Rice Farmer of the Year, a testament to his dedication and skill.

Hubert's life wasn't all work. He had a zest for fun and adventure. In his younger years, he was a skilled roller skater and even worked as a bouncer at the Winnie roller rink, where he hosted Mary Lou on their very first date. He loved bowling (and was quite good at it), playing in leagues for over 20 years. Hubert also enjoyed calf roping and had a lifelong passion for deer hunting in Junction, Texas. He had a passion for sports, and no matter the season, he was a loyal Houston Astros fan, cheering them on faithfully through the highs and the lows.

Hubert and Mary Lou shared countless adventures together, often taking road trips across the country, including memorable journeys to Alaska and Canada. He would hand Mary Lou the map and say, "You choose where we go, and I'll drive." Their love of travel together was evident to all who knew them.

Hubert was always known for putting Mary Lou first. Among his many thoughtful gestures were their daily outings to "go driving," which always ended with an ice cream cone, and their spontaneous day trips to Junction or Bastrop whenever she needed pecans...to gather them for her candies, pies, and her famous fruitcake cookies, of which the first batch never lasted long!

He was a constant presence in the stands, never missing a ball game or an opportunity to cheer on his grandchildren. His pride in them ran deep, often expressed with a grin and his familiar words: "I've got the best grandkids in the world. Maybe there are some out there that are just as good, but there aren't any better."

Hubert's faith was central to his life, and his favorite prayer was The Lord's Prayer, which he recited slowly and with great reverence. He believed that when spoken thoughtfully, one could feel the meaning of the words.

Hubert is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Lou Henry; children, Susan King Flora and husband, Mike; Deborah Henry Joiner; and Tina Leslie and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Scott King and wife Alyssa; Christopher Miguez; Jason Lee and wife, Brandi; Corey Lee and wife, Scarlett; and David Leslie and wife, Lauren; 11 great-grandchildren; and his brother, L.B. Henry and wife, Faye; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Nora and Antim Henry, and siblings Elreiana Fontenot and Elroy Henry.

Hubert's legacy of faith, family, and integrity lives on through all who knew and loved him.

The family thanks everyone for their love, prayers, and support during this time.
