Jean Sprawls Obituary

In Loving Memory of Jean Sprawls

Jean Boernke Sprawls, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on August 31, 2023, in Pocatello, Idaho, at the age of 92. Jean was born on June 10, 1931, to Leslie and Mary Boernke in Wausau, Wisconsin.

Jean is survived by her loving daughters, Susan Sprawls McDavid and Mary Sprawls Byers, both of Pocatello, Idaho, and her son, David Duane Sprawls of Throckmorton, Texas. She was predeceased by her husband, Aubrey Duane Sprawls, and a special friend, Bill Cook, who held a special place in her heart.

Jean's legacy lives on through her four cherished grandchildren: John Byers, Ryan Byers, Matthew McDavid (deceased), and Jacob McDavid, and her great grandchildren Lucas Byers and Hailey Byers.

Jean earned her bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Wisconsin. She specialized in working with children affected by cerebral palsy in Beaumont, where her compassionate care and expertise made a significant impact on the lives of young individuals and their families.

Jean enjoyed serving as a docent for many years at Beaumont's McFaddin-Ward House. She was skilled in the realm of antique furniture restoration. Her artistic talent extended to the art of quilting, where her creations served as tangible testaments to her creativity and love for her craft. She shared these talents with her family and friends, leaving behind beautiful pieces that will be cherished for generations. Her love of travel led her throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.

Jean was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Beaumont. She will be remembered for her warm heart and generous spirit. Her legacy lives on through her family and the countless lives she touched throughout her lifetime.

May she rest in eternal peace.

Jean and Aubrey were very close friends of my parents, Kaye and Duane Waggoner. I was a classmate of David also. Jean would come over to my parent's home while I was visiting from Dallas and it was always great to see her! She and my mom had a standing get together every Sunday night where they would eat dinner and then watch a movie. David came many times too and always got the TV ready for the two ladies! I will always remember her, and the fact that she and my mom were friends at the University of Wisconsin and both got their degree in Occupational Therapy, shows what a life long friendship they had. To go even further, they both moved from Wisconsin to Beaumont, Texas and actually lived around the corner from each other. We will all miss Jean as we do Aubrey. What a sweet woman whom I will never forget! I am privileged to call her my friend.
