Beloved father, brother, and friend, Norman Brett Vickers - known to everyone simply as Brett - passed away on July 2, 2025, at the age of 72.
Born in Houston, Texas, on January 31, 1953, he moved to Old Town Beaumont in 1958 with his parents, Herman and Lillian, and his two brothers, Alan and Craig. He would spend the rest of his 60+ years in Beaumont, with the love of his life, Maria, and many good friends - especially from the Beaumont High Class of '71 - by his side.
During one of his famous road trips in 1978, he made a stop in Atlanta, Georgia, that would change his life. He met a beautiful Guatemalan woman, Maria Eugenia Quesada, who was attending Georgia State University. She moved to Beaumont to be with him just months later, and they married on October 12, 1979. They had two daughters, Lauren and Mia - two apples who didn't fall far from the tree. An ever-protective dad, Brett did his best to make sure they didn't get too out of line - but he often failed. Once he had an empty nest, he turned into a total softie, going so far as to join a band of dads called Mid Life Crisis. This ended up being one of the most fun eras for him and his kids, when multiple families came together often to dance the night away.
Brett was as hardworking as they come. He started his career in oil and gas, eventually working alongside his father, Herman, in the same industry. Later, he and Maria launched MEQ International, a successful ship chandler service. But his greatest passion was working with his hands, particularly woodwork. He loved building and creating and always had a project for any felled tree he came across. His workshop was his haven, and the pieces and furniture he crafted were built with love. They will live on for decades, just as his memory will live on in our hearts.
We'd be remiss if we didn't mention Brett's lifelong friend, Gary Celli. The two shared a friendship forged in kindergarten that lasted for the next six decades until Gary's recent passing. A friendship that never grew stale - they were always there for one another and made each other better men. Their families assure you those two are looking down on all of us with full hearts, in a golf cart, ready to tee off.
Brett was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian; and his father, Herman.
He is survived by his wife, Maria; his daughters, Lauren and Mia; Mia's husband, Zach; and his grandchildren, Izzy (7) and Lou (2).
A memorial service for Mr. Vickers will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Broussard's, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. His cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard's Crematorium, Beaumont.
