Richard Lee "Dickie" Simmons, Jr., 83, of Lumberton, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025. He was born on June 27, 1942, in Beaumont, to Richard Lee Simmons Sr. and Opal Olivia (Leach) Simmons of Beaumont.
Dickie was a 1960 graduate of South Park High School. Dickie was very mechanically inclined. He started working for his father-in-law as a laborer, truck driver, welder and operating engineer, then on to be a superintendent. He spent many years working in the construction industry in Southeast Texas before founding Triple "S" Industrial Corporation in 1989 and serving as its President. He was a 58-year member of Newton Masonic Lodge #136 in Burkeville, and affiliated with Lumberton Lodge #1430 of Lumberton, in 1978.
Dickie was well known for his reputation for doing things his way. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed camping, gambling, family gatherings, and collecting vintage cars.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patricia Ann (Albarado) Simmons; his son Richard Lee "Rickey" Simmons III and wife, Dona Simmons, of Lumberton; and his daughter, Susan Kulhanek and husband, Kevin Kulhanek Sr., of Kountze. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; Chas Simmons and wife, Catherine Simmons, of Lumberton; Crystal (Simmons) Dorrell, of Lumberton; Erika (Simmons) Whipple and husband, Bryan Whipple, of League City; Kevin Kulhanek Jr. and wife, Amy Kulhanek of Vidor; Kalin Kulhanek and wife, Gini Kulhanek, of Sour Lake; Rafe Simmons and wife, Kelsey Simmons, of Lumberton; and Harley and Jacob Simmons, of Lumberton. Dickie is also survived by fourteen great grandchildren: Jack and Macy Simmons, of Lumberton; Colton Dorrell, of Lumberton; Poet and Indie Whipple, of League City; Kade, Klay, Kole, and Karter Kulhanek, of Vidor; Landon and Gunner Kulhanek, of Sour Lake; Jazmine Kulhanek, of Lumberton; and Rafe "Dempsey" and Ezra Simmons, of Lumberton. He is also survived by one great-great-granddaughter Oakleigh Mae Simmons, of Lumberton.
Dickie is preceded in death by his parents Richard Lee Simmons Sr. and Opal Olivia (Leach) Simmons; his son, Gregory Earl Simmons; his sister, Nancy (Simmons) Gore; grandson, Kolby Kulhanek.
Pallbearers include Chas Simmons, Kevin Kulhanek, Kalin Kulhanek, Rafe Simmons, Richard Bryant, Robert Moffett and Honorary Pallbearer Craig Leach.
A gathering of Dickie's friends and family will begin at 1:00 p.m., with his funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 15, 2025, at Broussard's Mortuary, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. A graveside service will follow at Old Hardin Cemetery, Old Cemetery Road, Kountze.
