John William "Bill" Cottrell, 78, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021. He was born in Bedford, VA on November 20, 1942 a son of the late James Madison Cottrell and Hazel Howell Cottrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Cottrell Crawford; his brother-in-law, Tommy Crawford; and his brother, James Cottrell. Bill loved farming, gardening and most of all his homeplace. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen McKinney Cottrell; sons, Danny Wayne Cottrell and wife Robin, Randy William Cottrell; grandson, Toby Cottrell; sister-in-law, Marguerite B. Cottrell; brother-in-law, Robert McKinney; childhood friends, James Wheeler and wife Margie, Ray Burnette and wife Hazel; friend, David Allen "Chili Bean" Watson; several nieces, nephews, cousins; many numerous other friends; and his canine friends, Tippy and Booboo.
